Tour Itinerary

Day 1 – From Dreams to River Towns

Begin your journey in Dyersville, IA with a visit to the iconic Field of Dreams. Continue to Dubuque for a city tour and a stop at the National Mississippi River Museum—part museum, part aquarium, part science center (if time permits). Then, travel to Galena, one of the Midwest’s most charming river towns. Check into the historic DeSoto House Hotel and enjoy a delightful group dinner. (L, D)

Day 2 – Galena Charm & A Mississippi River Cruise

After breakfast, enjoy time exploring Galena’s famous shops, filled with antiques, boutiques, and local specialties, or opt for a guided city tour that reveals the rich history of this charming Mississippi River town. Stroll down Main Street, where 19th-century architecture tells the story of Galena’s days as a booming lead-mining center and home to Civil War General Ulysses S. Grant. This afternoon, our journey continues along the scenic river bluffs to Moline, one of the vibrant Quad Cities. At the local visitors center, learn the fascinating story of how these communities grew around the mighty Mississippi and became hubs of culture and commerce. Then, step aboard the Celebration Belle for a leisurely river cruise—watch the shoreline drift by, enjoy the breeze on deck, and relax as the paddlewheel turns. As the sun lowers, we arrive at our hotel for the evening, where you’ll have time to unwind and reflect on a day rich in history, scenery, and river lore. (B)

Day 3 – River History & a Twilight Cruise

Begin the day at the Buffalo Bill Museum, exploring fascinating river history and stepping aboard an old steamboat. After lunch, relax on a scenic cruise aboard the steam-powered Twilight, taking in the stunning views and wildlife along the Mississippi. End the day with a delicious dinner in historic Hannibal. (B, D)

Day 4 – Hannibal & St. Louis

This morning, step back in time as we explore Hannibal, Missouri, with a local guide. Hear the colorful stories of Samuel Clemens—better known as Mark Twain—and meet his unforgettable characters like Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer, who sprang to life along these very riverbanks. Learn how the Mississippi River shaped Twain’s imagination, and visit sites that inspired his timeless tales. Afterward, enjoy free time to browse the quaint shops downtown, where antiques, local crafts, and classic fudge shops capture the charm of small-town America. This afternoon, we continue south to St. Louis, where the majestic Gateway Arch rises above the city skyline. Take in its powerful symbolism as the “Gateway to the West” and enjoy time to explore the grounds or visitor center. Tonight, we gather for a hearty Italian dinner in The Hill, St. Louis’s legendary Little Italy neighborhood, where family-owned restaurants serve up old-world recipes in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s the perfect ending to a day filled with history, culture, and a dash of Twain’s wit. (B, D)

Day 5 – St. Louis & Homeward Bound

This morning, marvel at the breathtaking Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, where every surface glitters with intricate mosaic artistry. Then, relax as you journey back across the plains, carrying home wonderful memories—and maybe a few treasures picked up along the way. Until the next adventure! (B)
